Clean Versions of Music (is it important?)

Being a DJ one of the things that I had to decide over and over when it came to downloading music was should I download the clean or dirty version of a song. When I first started being a DJ it really didn’t matter because I was in college and that was my only crowd to entertain for.  But as I got more experience in clubs I began to pay more attention to censored music. So I began to download both versions of songs but then it became a huge clutter in playlist. When it really comes down to it in my experience it really all depends on the crowds of people you entertain. Now I will use myself as an example, in the beginning my crowd was college students and club goers. I could play the dirty version because nobody really cared and some people rather hear the dirty version so it made since. Then I began to DJ for the student organizations on campus events where teachers and important figures would be at. At this point I still really didn’t download clean versions, I just played music that I knew for a fact didn’t have any cussing in it. As my DJ career progressed I began to entertain a lot more corporate events and family fun parties. The first question I always hear from new clients is “DO YOU PLAY CLEAN VERSIONS OF SONGS?”. This is when I began to realize very quickly how important it is to have clean versions of music especially with how explicit music is today. So in the end I basically started to just download the clean versions of songs, it makes everything a lot easier. Believe me nothing is worse than having a song play for family or corporate event and a cuss word or the N-Bomb drops, you only have a half a second to somehow edit the song on the fly, but most of the time you can’t do it without the crowd noticing. Now one other thing I notice with clean and radio versions of songs is that they are NOT completely clean some of the times. Some cuss words are considered clean in radio edited songs.  So in the end I just go with clean versions of songs, this method works the best for me.
